Tatting Applications LLC - Wall Hanging Tatting Patterns and Tatting books
About Me
Hi, I am Karen Lindsay. I have tatted for years--hundreds of yards and hundreds of hours; cute things and beautiful things. I enjoyed it immensely but found myself wanting something more. I wanted a way to display the beautiful art of tatting in a contemporary style. The result is an exciting and expanding line of wall samplers. They range from beginner to advanced. Patterns are available indiviaually or in book form.
My Tatting Story
When I was about 10 years old my older sister came home all excited about learning to tat. She had a friend who tatted and had shown her how. I watched my sister as she learned and picked it up from her. Since I didn't have a shuttle or thread I went outside and got a small smooth stick and wrapped the string that came off a flour sack around the stick. That was my first tatting shuttle and I actually succeeded in learning to tat. I tatted a few items but soon I was busy with life and didn't do any more tatting for many years.
Later when I was married I would tat a little something from time to time but not very much. Then one day my cousin came to me and wanted me to teach her how to tat. I taught her and she really got excited. She went home and started teaching classes. Her final assignment for her classes was for her students to pick a tatting project, the idea being that if they could complete a project they would have the skill mastered. This is where she ran into a glitch. None of her students could find a project they wanted to do. She called me and suggested that I come up with some ideas. I accepted the challenge and came up with the idea for putting tatting on wall hangings thinking that would be a more modern application and an effective way to display tatting. It took hold and has ended up in four books of patterns and I'm still doing more. In the mean time my cousin has written the most comprehensive book on tatting I've seen.
